Jewellery Engraving Perth
Engraving is one of the small details that turns a piece of jewellery into something personal to the wearer. A wedding date on the inside of a band. A child’s initials on the back of a pendant. The latitude and longitude of where you met cut into a ring. None of these add much to the purchase price, but all of them shift the meaning of the piece in a way only the wearer ever sees.
At our Mt Hawthorn studio in Perth, every engraving is done in house rather than outsourced. Both hand engraving and our laser engraving service are available depending on the brief and the materials. The studio has been running under master jeweller Stelios Palioudakis since 2007, and the engraving work that left for the 2020 Miss Universe Australia crown and the brooches commissioned by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra was completed by the same team that engraves wedding bands, charms and keepsakes for private clients each week.
Hand Engraving Versus Laser Engraving
The two techniques produce noticeably different results, and the right approach depends on the piece, the metal and your vision for the finished detail.
Hand engraving uses a graver or burin tool cut by hand into the gold or silver. The depth varies along each stroke, the lines carry character, and the lettering ages with the metal beautifully across a lifetime of wear. Hand-engraved script (cursive, copperplate or contemporary serif) reads warmer than any machine output and is ideal for wedding bands and sentimental pieces. Hand engraving typically takes one to two hours of bench time depending on the length.
Laser engraving uses a precision laser to remove a controlled layer of metal at exact tolerances. The result is uniform, sharp and reproducible, which suits inscriptions involving custom fonts, logos, scanned signatures, paw prints and serial numbers. Laser also handles harder accessories like titanium, brass, copper and tungsten that hand engraving struggles to cut cleanly. Our team will help you choose the ideal technique for your project at the appointment.
What We Engrave
Our engraving service covers new and existing pieces across every category that passes through the showroom. Wedding rings, engagement rings and wedding bands make up the bulk of the work, but we also engrave bracelets, bangles, pendants, lockets, cufflinks, signet rings, watches, charms and Christening pieces for loved ones celebrating special moments and milestones.
For new commissions we make ourselves, the engraving is included in most quotes and applied before final polish. For existing pieces brought in from elsewhere, we assess each item at the studio and quote separately, with typical delivery turnaround of one to two weeks. Shipping is available for interstate clients who cannot visit the showroom in person.
Popular Engraving Ideas
Most of the engraving briefs we run share a small set of themes:
- Wedding dates and initials inside the band, on the back of pendants or under the bezel of a watch.
- Coordinates of meaningful places: the spot of the proposal, the place you first met, a holiday location, a family home.
- Short messages and quotes: lines from songs, wedding vows, family sayings.
- Paw prints, fingerprints and signatures: scans of children’s handwriting, family pet paws or a loved one’s signature reproduced at the original scale.
- Recognition of milestones: a fortieth birthday, the year of an anniversary, a graduation date.
We will help you settle the wording, the layout and the script style before any cut is made, and we are happy to show you past engravings and examples from previous projects to spark ideas.

Materials We Engrave
We work across the materials we use in our regular jewellery and most of the materials brought in from outside: 18 carat yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, 950 platinum, sterling silver, titanium, tungsten, brass and copper. Hand engraving suits the softer precious metals; laser engraving covers the harder alternatives.
How To Arrange Your Engraving
Bring the piece to our Perth showroom for an in-person appointment, or contact our team through the website. Customers are welcome to bring sketches, photos or written ideas at the first order. For complex briefs (logos, scanned signatures, custom motifs), we mock up the engraving on screen for your approval before any cut is made. Every piece is treated with the same attention, regardless of where it was originally purchased.
