Wedding Bands Perth

Home/Wedding Bands

Choosing a wedding band is a different kind of decision from choosing an engagement ring. The engagement ring is the one people photograph. The wedding band is the one people live in. It goes on the finger during the ceremony, and in most cases it stays there through work, sleep, swimming, gardening, and every ordinary moment of the years that follow.

Our studio has been designing and making wedding bands for Perth couples since 2007, when Stelios Palioudakis opened a small workshop on Lord Street after finishing his Perth apprenticeship. A handful of early commissions turned into a retail space on Murray Street, and then into our current home in Mt Hawthorn.

The jewellery pieces we have varied across all three locations, but the approach has not: each band is designed around how the two people wearing it actually live.

Ladies Wedding Rings

Our women’s collection spans plain gold wedding bands, diamond-set bands, and contoured fitted rings designed to sit flush against an engagement ring. Widths typically range from 1.5mm for slender stackers through to 4mm for statement bands, and we build each one to suit the finger it will live on rather than a catalogue size.

A few of the styles we make most often:

  • Plain 18-carat bands in yellow, white, and rose gold, polished or with a soft brushed finish.
  • Half eternity bands, where diamonds run across the top half of the ring, which can be resized later in life.
  • Full eternity bands with diamonds around the entire circumference, best suited to clients confident in their current ring size.
  • Contoured bands shaped to sit flush against a specific engagement ring, usually commissioned after the proposal.
  • Vintage-inspired rings with milgrain edging, bead setting, or scalloped pave detail.

Men’s Wedding Rings

Men’s wedding bands at our studio cover the traditional yellow and white gold options as well as platinum, tantalum, and titanium for clients whose work or lifestyle demands something harder-wearing.

A short summary of the most-requested styles:

  • Classic flat or rounded 18-carat yellow gold bands, usually 4mm to 6mm wide, with polished or brushed finishes.
  • Platinum bands for couples who want the engagement ring and wedding band to match exactly in metal.
  • Tantalum bands in gunmetal grey, increasingly popular among tradespeople, surgeons, and others who need a ring that resists scratching.
  • Titanium bands for a light, hypoallergenic option at a lower price point.
  • Textured bark-finish or hammered bands for a more contemporary look.
  • Diamond-set men’s bands with flush-set or channel-set stones for wearers who want a little extra detail.

Our Men’s Wedding Rings page is the direct route to the range.

Precious Metal Options Explained

The metal shapes how the ring wears, ages, and feels. A short practical guide to each option.

Yellow gold

Warm, traditional, and forgiving on most skin tones. 18-carat yellow gold is the sweet spot for wedding bands. 9-carat is cheaper and harder, but the colour is paler and the gold content lower. Yellow gold pairs well with most engagement ring metals and has made a strong comeback in Perth over the past five years.

White gold

Yellow gold mixed with white alloys and rhodium-plated for brightness. Needs re-plating every three to five years to maintain the brilliant white finish. A cost-effective alternative to platinum with a very similar look.

Rose gold

Yellow gold combined with copper for a warm pink tone. Romantic, slightly softer than yellow gold, and particularly popular in vintage-inspired designs. Some wearers with sensitive skin react to the copper content over time.

Platinum

Dense, durable, and naturally white. Does not need plating. Develops a soft patina with wear that many clients prefer to the mirror polish of a new ring. More expensive per gram than gold, and noticeably heavier in the hand.

Tantalum

A rare metal with a distinctive dark grey colour. Hypoallergenic, extremely scratch-resistant, and almost impossible to bend out of shape. A practical choice for trades, medical, mining, and engineering work.

Titanium

Lightweight, strong, and hypoallergenic. Cannot be resized the way gold rings can, so sizing needs to be exact at order. Sits at a lower price point than gold or platinum.

9-carat gold

Harder than 18-carat but with a paler yellow due to the lower pure gold content. Worth considering for clients on tight budgets who wear their ring through physical work.

A note on mixing metals: a harder metal worn next to a softer one will wear the softer one down over time. If one partner chooses platinum and the other chooses 18-carat gold, expect the gold ring to need occasional polishing. We factor this into our advice when a couple picks different metals.

Bridal Sets And Matching Bands

For couples who want the engagement ring and wedding band designed to work together, a bridal set is the simplest route. The two rings are designed in parallel so the profiles, metal finishes, and stone settings line up cleanly on the finger.

Two common approaches:

  • Matched bridal set. Engagement ring and wedding band designed at the same time and intended to be worn together. The band sits flush against the engagement ring, and the two pieces share finish, metalwork, and visual rhythm.
  • Contoured fitted band. The engagement ring is already made. The wedding band is shaped afterwards to follow its curves, claw setting, or profile exactly. Common for clients whose engagement ring came from a family reset or another jeweller.

His and hers sets are also popular. Some couples choose matching metals and designs. Others combine different metals, different widths, or different finishes that still share a common element like engraving style or surface texture.

Choosing The Right Wedding Band

A few of the considerations we work through with every couple.

Width and profile. Men’s bands typically sit between 5mm and 7mm, women’s between 2mm and 4mm. A flat profile is modern, a domed profile is traditional, and a bevelled edge sits between the two. Try on several before committing.

Finish. High polish shows fingerprints and scratches more visibly. Brushed or matte finishes hide wear and often suit clients in physical work. A hammered or bark finish brings its own texture and conceals scratches even more effectively.

Engraving. Inside-band engraving is the most common form of personalisation. Dates, initials, coordinates of a meaningful location, phrases in any language including Greek, or symbols. We engrave before final polish, so the text sits cleanly against the metal.

Stones. Diamond-set bands add presence but also add cost and complexity to future resizing. Flush-set or bezel-set stones tend to hold up better than prong-set over decades of wear.

Life and work. A cook, a surgeon, a nurse, a FIFO tradesperson, a pianist, and a rock climber all need something slightly different from the same ring. We ask about daily habits before we recommend a profile or metal.

A Recent Pair We Delivered

A couple from Como came to us last year with a specific constraint. The groom worked FIFO in Karratha on mine site maintenance, and the two previous silver bands he had worn through the roster had both been damaged in under a month on site. The bride wanted a traditional 18-carat yellow gold ring that echoed her mother’s wedding band, which she had been wearing on a chain since her mother’s passing.

We built a tantalum band for him, 6mm wide with a brushed finish, and designed an 18-carat yellow gold band for her with a subtle taper that followed the profile of her mother’s ring. The two did not match in metal, and both of them liked it that way. His ring was about surviving site work. Her ring was about carrying something forward.

The bride sent us a photograph from their ceremony out at a vineyard in the Swan Valley. It remains one of our favourite pairings of the year.

Care And Long-Term Wear

A wedding ring worn daily goes through a lot. A few practical habits we recommend:

  • Take the ring off before weight training and heavy lifting. Grip pressure against metal bends rings out of round faster than anything else.
  • Remove rings before swimming in pools. Chlorine reacts with gold alloys over time.
  • Bring the ring in once a year for a check-up. We tighten prongs, re-polish, re-plate white gold where needed, and inspect any stones at no cost.
  • Remove before cleaning with harsh chemicals. Bleach and ammonia degrade both metal and stones.
  • If a stone feels slightly loose, stop wearing the ring and bring it in. A loose stone is a lost stone waiting to happen.

Every wedding band we sell comes with free cleaning and polishing for the life of the ring. If the ring ever needs more substantial repair, we can assess and quote before anything is touched.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few of the questions couples ask us most often before commissioning a wedding band.

Do Men And Women Wear Wedding Bands On The Same Finger?

In Australia, yes. Both partners traditionally wear the wedding band on the fourth finger of the left hand. The engagement ring sits on the same finger for the bride, usually with the wedding band closer to the knuckle after the ceremony.

Can You Match A Wedding Band To An Engagement Ring Made Elsewhere?

Yes. Bring the engagement ring in for a sizing, tracing, and profile check. We design and make a contoured band to sit flush against it, matching the metal, the finish, and the design language.

How Long Does A Custom Wedding Band Take To Make?

Four to six weeks from first consultation to collection for most bespoke commissions. Contoured bands shaped to match an existing engagement ring usually run at the shorter end of that range. If you have a firm ceremony date, tell us at the first meeting and we plan around it.

Are Lab Grown Diamonds An Option For Wedding Bands?

Yes. Many of our diamond-set wedding bands use lab grown stones, which deliver the same look and grade as mined diamonds at a lower price point.

Do You Offer Insurance Options For Wedding Rings?

Yes. We are a listed partner of Q Report Jewellery Insurance, which provides replacement-value cover independent of home contents policies. Every ring we sell comes with certification and valuation paperwork to support insurance.

What Is The Cost Difference Between A Plain Band And A Diamond-Set Band?

A plain 18-carat gold band typically sits between $1,200 and $2,800. Adding a half eternity of diamonds adds $1,000 to $3,000 depending on stone quality. A full eternity band can add considerably more.

Can A Wedding Band Be Resized Later?

Most bands can be resized up or down by one size without issue. Full eternity bands with stones all the way around cannot be resized conventionally. Tantalum and titanium cannot be resized at all, so sizing needs to be correct at the time of order.
